
The Cabinet of Ukraine has suggested the Supreme Rada to increase considerably fines and imprisonment terms for infringement of intellectual property rights of UEFA and partners of the European championship on football 2012.
As the vice-prime minister – the minister of infrastructure Boris Kolesnikov informed, the Cabinet has proposed to introduce additional measures on protection of intellectual property rights of UEFA and official partners of Euro-2012 in a bill «About intellectual property rights and UEFA reputation». In the Supreme Rada the project was registered on the 26th of March, but still five years ago the organization has put forward the requirements to Ukraine, on the basis of which the bill was developed.
As “Kommersant-Ukraina” edition informs, the bill suggests to establish the maximum fine for illegal use of UEFA logos in a sum of 85 thousand hrn., when the Code about administrative offences provides the maximum punishment in the sum of 3,4 thousand hrn.
So, for illegal copying of records of football matches and their distribution in the Internet users and owners of resources can be imprisoned for the term to six years (now – five years). For illegal use of a word “Euro-2012″ in a domain name, placing of advertising banners on sites with the championship symbolics or translation of the matches in the Internet the sites’ owners, besides the penalty, can lose the domain and servers. Besides, the owners of establishments are proposed to put into prison for 2 years for championship translation in public places on screens with a diagonal more than 3 m without the permission of UEFA (now the responsibility for these actions is not provided). And drivers can be suspended driving license for 3 months for illegal drawing of the championship emblems on a car or transportation of counterfeit production.
